Texas Price Gougers Are Hurricane Heroes

I generally use Texas as a good example when discussing public policy. Particularly compared to places such as California.

I like the sensible attitude about guns, but the absence of an income tax is particularly admirable when considering economic issues,

and I confess to being greatly amused when I read about jobs and investment escaping high-tax states like California and moving to the Lone Star State.

But being more pro-market than California is a low bar to clear. And I’ve written that government is too big in Texas.

And now, because of Hurricane Harvey, I have another reason to criticize the state.

Texas has a law against “price gouging,” which means politicians there (just like the politicians in places like Venezuela) think they should get to determine what’s a fair price rather than allow (gasp!) a free market……  Read More

You Probably Drink Chlorine in Your Water Every Day — But Is It Harmful?

Every day, millions of people drink chlorinated tap water.

Chlorine is used to keep our water clean by disinfecting it and killing germs. And it does a marvelous job at eliminating most pathogens from the water we drink.

But the use of this powerful chemical has a downside. According to a report from the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, the cancer risk for people who drink chlorinated water is up to 93% higher than for those whose water does not contain chlorine.

When chlorine was first introduced to the water supply, it brought a rapid reduction in the spread of disease and other water-borne ailments. It made it easier for cities and towns to purify drinking water and to keep their residents safe.

Now, however, it seems like these advancements have come at a price. While we recognize and applaud the benefits chlorine has brought to us, it’s time we also protect ourselves from the harms of drinking chlorine – particularly because that turns out to be a pretty easy thing to do for your health and the health of your family…. Stop Smart Meters!

Then look around the rest of the site.  The many dangers, and nefarious capabilities of these meters is real. John Whitehead at the Rutherford Institute  has incredible yet true observations about the state of our society. If you don’t read this book at least check out his weekly editorials.  Mr Whitehead is spot on. I was reminded of this a few weeks back when I was treated like a Jew in Auschwitz by a Seymour MO cop.  I now carry a camera or two on me at all times, as I doubt that this thug would have acted the way he did if I had filmed it. I suggest that you do the same and always have a camera ready to roll.  As things now stand I have to make an appearance in the local star chamber.  They were not abolished,  that is what our Missouri “courts” have become, and it should terrify you as it does me, as I will not be able to film there, for my protection.   ~MFP
